Zap Mama and Antibalas at Koerner Hall in Toronto

The Conservatory’s TD Jazz: A Salute to the Big Bands series takes a trip to Africa as Afrobeat band Antibalas joins forces with Zap Mama on February 7. Brooklyn-based Antibalas last appeared in Toronto as the house band in the Broadway musical Fela, the story of their muse, Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti. Zap Mama is led by Congolese/Belgian artist Marie Daulne, who sings polyphonic and Afro-pop, a harmonic combination of African vocal techniques with urban and hip hop beats. This concert is sure to be another dance party. Dancing in Koerner Hall is encouraged – come and dance!
