The beautiful mischief of Afro-Brasilian polyrhythms comes alive in this music by Kátia Moraes together with her entourage. The visceral energy that literally explodes from the percussion of Felipe Fraga’s drums and battery of percussion instruments is lit by the fuse from João Pedro Mourão’s guitars, Isaías Elpes’ bass and Uziel Colón’s keyboards. But the fire is literally fanned by the joyful, soaring vocals of the carioca, Kátia Moraes, backed up by vocalist Kana Shimanuki. The result is this effervescent song, “Misturba”, a rhythmic way of introducing the world to a new recipe that cooks the old Brasilian fare – a hodgepodge of capoeira, maracatu, afoxé, spiced with zealous sprinkling of repente, reaching boiling point in the heat of samba melded in with Música popular brasileira. Behind all of this are the magical hands and voice of Kátia Moraes, a visual artist and vocalist who is expert at stirring the cauldron of this magical brew. The B side of the single features “Arranhado”, which begs the question: what would a Brasilian record be without a sense of saudade?
